WHY DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are one of the most reliable long-term methods of tooth replacement. Since they became widely available in the 1980s, numerous scientific studies have demonstrated a 10-year success rate of over 95%. Whether you need to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, dental implants can be the most cost-effective course of treatment and is widely becoming the “Standard of Care” in our dental office.

WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?

Teeth essentially have two main parts, the crown – the visible part above the gum line, and the root – the part that is not visible below the gum line which serves as an anchor to the jaw bone. A dental implant is a replacement for the root part of the tooth. Modern dental implants are made of commercially pure titanium, a metallic substance used for many years in medicine and dentistry because it is not rejected by the body. The titanium also has the unique ability to allow the living bone to grow onto its surface in a process called osseointegration (“Osseo” – bone, “integration” – joining with). As a result, the implant becomes physically anchored in the bone of the jaw.
